Movement & Gait Anaylsis

Biomechanics is the study of how your body moves.

The human foot is a biomechanical masterpiece, that can cope from everything from walking to running  to jumping and dancing when left to its own devices.  But what happens when things go wrong.

Everyone is different, the human body moves in a truly unique sequence of events. Gait analysis is a way in which we can study and quantify movements during such events as walking or running.

Performing gait analysis and functional movement assessments on individuals allows us to understand your patterns of movements and overall function.

Finding the root causes of your pain by looking at how you are engineered….

Faulty structural and/or functional biomechanics often a component in musculo-skeletal pain in the foot, ankle, heel and lower leg.

Assessing how and when each joint is moving, how muscles are functioning and how these movements are controlled gives us insight into to whether these are playing a role in the pain or injuries you are experiencing.

What does a typical assessment include?

  • Analysis of walking (gait) pattern
  • Biomechanical Assessment (Foot, Ankle, Knee, Hip structural and functional analysis)
  • In-depth Foot & Ankle analysis
  • Functional exercises to assess quality and control of various movement patterns
  • Analysis of running (gait) pattern if necessary
  • Evidenced-based interpretation of findings and potential links to injury, written report if necessary
  • Comprehensive treatment plan formulated with findings

We use motion analysis to assist us in diagnosing injury related to walking, running and sports. We also use this routinely on runners and athletes to help provide solutions to maximise their performance.

This assessment is routinely performed in consultations when necessary by our podiatrists who have extended scope of skills in this area.

Custom Orthotic Therapy

Custom Orthotic Therapy

What are they?

Foot orthoses are in shoe-medical devices that are used in the treatment of numerous foot, ankle, knee and lower limb complaints.

They’re effectiveness has been thought to be due to supporting, aligning or correcting the foot’s posture or deformity. A more up to date understanding in which they produce there action is by altering stresses and forces that are transmitted to your muscles, tendons, ligaments and bones.

We prescribe, design and manufacture orthotics to reduce pain, solve injuries and improve foot function which will improve the biomechanical action of the entire body, keeping you pain free and active as well as preventing injury.

They can help with a range of problems which will be discussed with you at your consultation.

Conditions Orthotics May Assist with;

  • Arch Pain
  • Midfoot Pain
  • Shin Pain
  • Tendon Pain
  • Ankle Pain
  • Heel Pain
  • Forefoot Pain
  • Joint Pain

We are so confident in prescribing orthotics that we offer a 100 % satisfaction guarantee or your money back.

Our Orthotic Process

Assess – Biomechanics (Initial Appointment)

When prescribing an orthoses it is important that a full assessment has been completed. Our podiatrists aim to accurately identify the injured tissues, accurate diagnosis is a crucial element.

It is important to assess your movement with functional tasks, walking and running which lets us understand what may have contributed to an injury, and we then design patient specific treatment plans aimed at addressing the identified causes; This may include orthotic therapy .

If your podiatrist suggests an orthotic prescription he will give a sound explanation and reasoning why this may be used.

Capture (3D Scan Taken at Initial or Follow Up)

Utilizing a process known as stereo photogrammetry, we’re able to determine the location of points on an object. During the SOLS fitting process we extract foot morphology data to generate a topographic map of the foot by identifying reference measurements made in two or more photographic images taken from different positions.

Prescribe & Design

Our Podiatrist have studied the mechanics and dynamics of the foot and gait cycle to build a product made specifically for you to reduce your pain, increase comfort and improve your function.

Our orthotics are configured to your function, pain, activity and footwear to offer you a completely tailored solution.

Our orthotics are firm enough to support you, and flexible enough to absorb striking impacts and propel you back into action.

Fitting Appointment (Follow Up Appointment)

At this appointment the orthotics are fitted to your feet and footwear. A consultation with the podiatrist is essential at this step to ensure the orthotics are achieving what they are supposed to and to allow for small adjustments to be made. Please make sure you bring the shoes you plan to wear the orthotics in.
